FAQ
Q: What is Rex Barshasha traditionally used for?
A: It is a classical Unani paste traditionally taken at bedtime to support comfort during cough and cold, soothe the throat and chest, and encourage restful sleep and calm. It is a traditional wellness product and is not a treatment for depression, sleep disorders, tinnitus or any diagnosed condition.
Q: What does it contain? Does it contain opium?
A: Yes. The listed ingredients are Filfil Siyah (black pepper), Filfil Safaid (white pepper), Zafran (saffron), Sumbul-ut-Teeb (spikenard), Jatamanshi, Aqarqarha (pellitory), Farfiyun (euphorbium resin), Shahad (honey), Qand Safeid (white sugar), Ajwain Khurasani and Bazr-ul-Banj (henbane, Hyoscyamus niger), Afyun (opium) and sodium benzoate as a preservative. Opium is a narcotic and can cause drowsiness, constipation, slowed breathing and dependence if misused; henbane contains toxic tropane alkaloids. Per-gram quantities are not published by the manufacturer. The formula contains no mercury, lead or other metal-based preparation.
Q: How should I take it?
A: The traditional adult dose is 1 gram with lukewarm water at bedtime, or as directed by your Unani physician. Do not take more than directed, and do not use it as an energy booster or for long-term continuous use without supervision.
Q: Who should avoid it, and when should I see a doctor?
A: Avoid during pregnancy and lactation and do not give to children. Avoid if you have breathing difficulty, sleep apnoea, glaucoma or an enlarged prostate with urinary retention, or if you take sedatives, sleeping pills, antidepressants or alcohol, as the combination can be dangerous. It can cause drowsiness, so do not drive or operate machinery after taking it. It contains sugar and honey, so people with diabetes should consult a physician first. A cough lasting more than two weeks, breathlessness, blood in the sputum, high fever, or persistent low mood or sleeplessness need medical evaluation rather than self-treatment. Keep out of reach of children.
